Some may say "Those are very separate things, Marissa...requiring very separate spaces. Work life and personal life shouldn't intermingle! Goodness, stop the mingling at once!"
To which my response would be 'I bring my whole self with me to work every day. I bring my own perspective and my own personal experiences. Given that I bring my person and personality to work every day, I find it more impactful to get a little personal. I know... that can be as daunting as a 14,000 pound elephant giving you the side eye. But if we shut the world out, I think we're depriving ourselves of the opportunity to learn, share, and grow together. This is the journey of me trying to open my eyes.'
I'm a Product Marketing Manager at MongoDB working in NYC. My favorite hobbies include unintentional rhyming.
I think the word "passionate" is very much overused in the recruiting process, so I am a fervent advocate of open source technology and I enjoy technical writing, literature, and travel. I work on products and projects that invoke change. I love being a Latina in tech, despite the fact that I haven't pinned down my favorite role and that Latinas only make up 2% of the STEM workforce.
My working experience has taken place at:
Autodesk - A 3D software company
Flickr - A photo/video management company
Twitter - A social networking company
YouTube - Does this even need an intro?
MongoDB - A document-oriented database company
I've learned a lot along the way and I'm happy to share my learnings from inside and outside of the workplace.
